How to look your best

Posted on

If your busy schedule has left you looking a little more bedraggled than usual, it might be time to stop, take stock and see if there is anything you can do to enhance your appearance (without resorting to drastic measures). You'll be amazed at what a difference just a few simple changes can make to both your overall look and your self-confidence.

Change your skincare

Updating your skincare routine every few years is important. As people get older the texture and tone of their skin changes; when this happens, different products are needed to address these new skin issues. Using a cleanser or moisturiser which is no longer suitable for your skin type can cause all kinds of problems, including dryness, breakouts and irritation.

For instance, if your skin is quite dehydrated at the moment, but you're still using the same oil-absorbing cleanser you did when you were an acne-prone teenager, something as simple as purchasing a more hydrating cleansing lotion could dramatically improve the look of your facial skin by reducing flakiness and giving it a more youthful glow.

If you're struggling with a specific issue, such as rosacea, adult acne or pigmentation, it might be worth consulting a dermatologist. They will be able to identify the underlying cause of the problem and prescribe a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to your individual needs.

Address dental issues

One of the most effective steps you can take to alter your appearance for the better is to deal with any dental problems you might have. If a love of coffee and wine has left your teeth looking a bit stained, something as simple as a teeth-whitening session could completely change your smile. If the issue is more complex—for instance, if your teeth are quite crooked or misshapen—it may be a good idea to book a consultation with one of the orthodontists in your local area to find out if braces might be a suitable solution to this particular problem.

Understand the importance of the smaller details

Whilst getting a completely different hairstyle or purchasing a whole new wardrobe of clothes can be a great way to change your appearance, it's often the seemingly minor details that make a person look their best. Getting your eyebrows professionally waxed or threaded is a fantastic way to enhance the shape of your face, whilst splurging on a manicure and pedicure is a subtle but effective way to give yourself a more polished look.
